Course Description
: This course consists in initial study of the German language, called high German.  The course includes a study of the elementary grammar of that language and an introduction to translating.

German II

Prerequisites:  German I (C- or better in German I)
Course Description
: This course continues the study of German grammar, contains readings, both cultural and humorous, and is an introduction to conversational German.  It prepares the student for college courses in German. 

German III

Prerequisites:  German II (C or better in German II)
Course Description
: This course continues the study of German grammar, contains readings, both cultural and humorous, and expands the use of conversational German.  It prepares the student for college courses in German.

Latin I

:  An introductory course to elementary Latin.

Latin II

Course Description
: This course consists of a continuation of the study of basic Latin grammar and syntax, begun in the first year course. A gradual review of Latin grammar, syntax, and vocables learned in the first year course continues with the learning of Latin grammar and syntax including the noun, the verb, the indirect statement, the adjective and adverb, the pronoun, infinitives, participles, and the subjunctive mood of the verb.

Latin III & IV

Full Year Course:  1.0 Credit
Prerequisites:  Latin I & II (consent of instructor)
Course Description: This course consists of advanced secondary-school Latin, namely a study of Latin beyond the ninth and tenth grade level, particularly Latin literature of the Classical Period.  This course offers a gradual review of Latin grammar and syntax (second half of first year Latin) through the study of vocabularies and translation exercises in Latin sentences.  Selections  from Caesar’s Gallic Wars and readings from A Study of Second Year Latin are alternated year by year with the study of the Aeneid by Vergil (Books I & II).  (weighted grade for each year)

Spanish I

Full Year Course:  1.0 Credit
Prerequisites:  None
Course Description:
   Spanish I is designed to introduce students  to the Spanish language and culture.  Emphasis is placed on learning vocabulary and grammar.  Students will learn how to conduct primitive conversation in Spanish.  Throughout the course, students are directed to see how as Christians we can reach out with the Gospel to those of  the Hispanic culture.

Spanish II

Full Year Course:  1.0 Credit
Prerequisites:  Spanish I (C- or better)
Course Description
:   A continuation of Spanish I.  There will be a repeated emphasis on the fundamentals of comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing with more diversity in language use.  Designed to practice and improve knowledge already acquired, students will build on that knowledge to digest more advanced linguistic concepts.

Spanish III

Grade  Level:  12
Full Year Course:  1.0 Credit
Prerequisites:  Spanish I and Spanish II (C- or better and teacher approval)
Course Description
:   Spanish III will focus on the utilization of previously acquired Spanish rudiments with intensive speaking, writing, and reading.  More advanced grammar will be introduced, but the emphasis will be on language proficiency.  Cultural topics will also be discussed.
